A white paper by Eriez reported its Trunnion Magnets, when deployed to an 18-ft-diameter mill, can cut daily kilowatt usage by 8%, and offer cost savings of as much as $100,000 per year.
The Trunnion Magnet System bolts on the ball mill discharge flange. A permanent magnetic circuit collects the grinding ball fragments and stows them away. The system offers continuous collection of metal fragments.
By removing the balls, chips or scats, the system reduces power consumption from the mill drive and prevents damage to other equipment, such as pumps and hydrocyclones, Eriez reported.
The white paper is available from the company website.
