Chile Minister of Mining Baldo Prokurica, together with the manager of Expomin, Francisco Sotomayor, discussed the launch of Latin America’s largest mining fair during a recent breakfast press conference. Expomin 2020 takes place April 20-24 in Santiago, Chile, and this year’s theme is “La minería facilitando el future” or “Facilitating the Future with Mining.”
During the press conference, Chile’s secretary of state said, “This is a great opportunity to show the world what Chile is doing in mining and to generate links between supplier countries of the sector, both Chilean and foreign, to face the challenges that this industry has.”
Prokurica said, “This year, the fair will have a space that will allow Chilean suppliers and startups to present their innovations, which, in our opinion, are a formula for exporting intelligence and services. We believe that Expomin will open an opportunity to incorporate Chilean mining into the world and to welcome exhibitors with new technologies.”
Sotomayor, explained that “In this space, although they will be able to access at a lower cost, entrepreneurs will have the support of several institutions, because we seek to contribute and we want innovation and technology to be present. Our national startups will have the instance of connecting with the more than 5,000 foreign visitors of the exhibition.”
Sotomayor said more than 80% of the exhibition spaces have been sold, and 29 countries are represented and they are waiting on confirmation from others.
He added that they are optimistic with this 30-year edition, and said, “The realization of the fair gives an account of the stability and projection that this sample of international category has had and the interest generated by the mining sector worldwide because a fair is not only a sample of stands and of exhibitors and visitors, but it is the reflection of a sector in its different, stakeholders, investors and authorities at international level.”
The guest country for the 2020 edition of Expomin is the USA and it will have a strong presence with more than 1,000 square meters of exhibition. The challenge for 2020 is to accommodate the participation of 1,300 exhibiting companies with more than 70,000 during the five days of the fair.
