Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology rolled out the RDX5 rock drill this week, which complements its rock drill offering for underground drill rigs. The company is promoting the new RDX5 rock drill as a robust replacement for the HLX5 rock drill, which it said has a reputation for being one of the world’s most reliable rock drills. The new RDX5 rock drill is designed to honor its predecessor by exceeding that well-known reliability, the company said.

The new RDX5 rock drill has an increased minimum service interval compared to the previous HLX5 model, according to Sandvik. Its design follows that of the HLX5, with a minimal number of moving parts and pressurized seams. Innovations have been made to several components, such as the flushing head, the gear housing and body cylinder, to deliver a new level of durability for internal items, the company said. The new RDX5 also has a new percussion package and patented piston design, which enables improved energy efficiency, according to Sandvik.

Designed for face and long hole drilling, as well as rock bolting, the new RDX5 rock drill is completely interchangeable with HLX5 rock drills in all applications where used.
