Jacobs Engineering Group has been chosen by Teck Resources and Aurubis AG to perform the prefeasibility study (PFS) for a proposed copper cathode production facility in Peru. Under the terms of the contract, Jacobs will provide capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX) estimates to Teck and Aurubis for determining project prefeasibility. Teck and Aurubis’ conceptual copper cathode production facility would incorporate their proprietary CESL copper-arsenic process technology — providing high copper and precious metal recoveries, controlled arsenic deportment, and reduced environmental impact compared to traditional pyrometallurgical smelter processing facilities in respect to air, dust and water.
“We have extensive experience in delivering full life-cycle solutions to copper processing facility owners and operators and more than 40 years of working alongside Teck,” said Jacobs Mining and Minerals and Specialty Chemicals Senior Vice President and General Manager Andrew Berryman. “Our collaboration with Teck and Aurubis will support project and business objectives for the company’s proposed copper cathode production facility.”
