Compañia de Minas Buenaventura S.A.A., Peru’s largest publicly traded precious metals mining company, reported it has resumed operations at the Uchucchacua mine. The Contractors’ Union at the mine had initiated a strike on January 9 that lasted 21 days. During that time, Buenaventura took the opportunity to perform maintenance at the operation.
While Uchucchacua’s first quarter production will likely be affected by the resulting production lapse, the company said it is focused on offsetting the impact in subsequent quarters. The company is maintaining its production guidance for the full-year 2019.
According to the company, the strike was determined to be illegal by the Peruvian Labor Authority.
