BHP’s Kalgoorlie nickel smelter in Western Australia closed this week due to a fire at the site, as reported by Reuters. The fire has been put out and no injuries were reported.
Reuters also reported the nickel smelter would remain closed while BHP assessed the damage.
Employees were expected to return to the smelter on Monday, October 1.
The smelter is part of BHP’s Nickel West operations in Western Australia’s Goldfields region.
