Antofagasta Minerals’ Antucoya copper mine in Chile reached its goal of processing 32 million metric tons (mt) last year. Since its opening in 2017, the company has focused on reaching its design capacity. In 2020, it started 32M, a multidisciplinary project that involved teams from all areas and that allowed it to optimize its processes to reach the maximum potential of its crushing plant during 2022.
“This is an achievement that enables the sustainability of our business, supports its growth and ensures its competitiveness. A milestone that allows us to continue demonstrating that it is possible to develop low-grade mining, efficiently and sustainably, as Antucoya does,” said Leonardo González, general manager of Antucoya.
The 32M project was an important cultural and organizational change that challenged the entire organization to achieve a common goal. “It was not an easy task, but on December 26, 2022, the goal was achieved,” González said.
