More than 1,300 people turned out for the American Exploration & Mining Association’s (AEMA) annual meeting in Reno this week. This year’s conference had a heavy Alaskan influence. NovaGold Resources President and CEO Greg Lang provided updates on the company’s Donlin Project in Alaska during a keynote luncheon on the opening day.

AEMA president Mark Compton welcomed guests to the 127th annual meeting and presented several awards prior to Lang’s keynote. “It’s really good to meet in person again,” Compton said. “Last year, AEMA held a virtual conference, and we did the best we could with bad situation.”

Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy (R) spoke during the luncheon on the second day of the event. He discussed the importance of natural resources and mining and reminded everyone of the state’s mineral endowment.
