Baja Mining Corp. has announced that Minera y Metalurgica del Boleo S.A. (MMB) COO Kyoung Jin Park drowned in the town of Santa Rosalia, adjacent to the JV Boleo project, during a flooding from heavy rains caused by Hurricane Odile. CEO Sung Keun Chai, believed to have been with Park, has been reported missing and a search by Mexican authorties is under way.

Baja Interim CEO Tom Ogryzlo expressed deep sadness. “I wish to offer my most sincere condolences to the famil‎ies, friends and colleagues of Mr. Chai and Mr. Park, and acknowledge the extraordinary commitment and contributions of these two individuals to the significant progress in advancing the Boleo project.”

After making landfall on the Baja Peninsula, the storm pounded Santa Rosalia. Heavy rains and winds knocked out electricity and communications. Baja added that there is no significant project site damage, while onsite communications are restored; project activity, however, remains halted pending inspection and cleanup.
