Global engineering company FLSmidth won a five-year maintenance contract from SCM Minera Lumina Copper officials to supply maintenance services for their Caserones copper and molybdenum plant in the Andes Mountains of Chile.

The contract includes a mechanical maintenance staff of 110 to provide SCM’s project, 865 km northeast of the capital Santiago, with a cost reduction, while heightening production via equipment reliability, according to FLSmidth officials.

This won’t be the first such project for FLSmidth in Chile, according to company representatives. “In combination, these gives us a strong foothold in the Chilean mining industry, while opening up for other opportunities in Chile and the region in general," said Group Executive Vice President Bjarne Moltke Hansen.

SCM Lumina Minera Copper Corp is an exploration and development company with copper resources in Argentina. Its 100% owned property, Taca Taca, is a copper/gold/molybdenum project, comprising approximately 2,500 hectares in the Puna region of northwestern Argentina in the Salta Province.
