Watts, Griffis and McOuat Ltd. (WGM) will supply contract geological technical staff for Cameco Corp.’s mine operations and exploration in northern Saskatchewan. “Cameco’s exploration strategy is focused on replacing mined reserves to ensure continued growth through 2018 and beyond,” said Kurt Breede, WGM vice president of marketing. “This opportunity allows us and Cameco to mentor bright, young geoscientists in one of Canada’s most prolific mineral producing regions.” Cameco’s operating Canadian uranium mines are situated in the Athabasca Basin, between 570 and 700 km due north of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. In addition, Cameco has direct interests in 1.4 million hectares (3.5 million acres) of land in the region for further exploration.
