Officials at Weir Minerals have announced the expansion of their coal processing with the acquisition of coal centrifuge manufacturer Aspir Pty Ltd. in Australia. Aspir is using new technology to beneficiate and dewater coal, according to Business Unit Manager Wayne Trench. “We’ve got many decades of experience in the coal space,” he said. “We offer an innovative, high quality line of coal processing products we understand and do well.”

The acquisition allows Weir to provide increased classification and a greater processing range. Key products include the Aspir coarse and fine centrifuges combining high-quality components with one of the industry’s most advanced drive mechanisms to maximize service life. These include wedge wire screens, flat panels, dense medium cyclones, sieve bends, underpans and ceramic repair compounds.

Weir Minerals also has service centers close to coalfields in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and Indonesia while offering aftermarket expertise with the acquisition of the Aspir business.

“We are now able to respond to our customers’ needs much faster,” said Trench. “We’ve had situations since the acquisition where I’ve been able to have a technician on a mine site within 30 minutes of a customer call, which could never have happened before.”

In related news, Weir Minerals Canada opened a new service and distribution facility at the MacKenzie Industrial Park in Fort McMurray to support oil sands miners. The new 19,000-sq-ft facility triples Weir’s secure storage, allowing for new original equipment order deliveries.
