Teck Resources Ltd. has announced its first zinc and lead concentrate shipment since the restart of the Pend Oreille project in northeastern Washington to the trail operations in British Columbia for processing.
Officials at the Canadian miner praised the development. “The restart was on time and under budget to grow when global supply is constrained,” said CEO Don Lindsay.
Pend Oreille, subsidiary-operated by Teck Washington Inc., has pending annual guidance of 44,000 zinc concentrate tons. The re-opening, according to Teck officials, will draw $20 million in local investment during the startup phase while supporting 230 jobs.
The asset was run by Teck between 2004 and 2009, before being placed on care and maintenance amid poor market demands. Regulatory permits are now effective as six years of maintenance are supporting the restart.
