Stillwater Mining Co., a leading producer of platinum group metals, appointed Michael (Mick) McMullen as CEO; McMullen will be based in Billings, Montana, and will remain on the board of directors.
McMullen most recently served as principal at MRI Advisory AG, a private company focused on metal and minerals projects development in the Americas, Europe and Africa, and has overseen development of large open-pit and underground mines in Australia, Europe and Latin America. His most recent experience includes positions as executive chairman of Nevada Iron Ltd. and executive chairman of Lachlan Star Ltd., where he oversaw acquisition and optimization of the CMD Gold Mine in Chile, a 17,000-ton-per-day (t/d) open-pit mine with 650 employees. McMullen also formed Northern Iron Ltd. in 2007, which developed a 19,000-t/d iron ore mine in Norway with 400 employees and contractors; while there, he served as managing director and marketing president through Q3 2010.
