Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) has garnered the Professional Services category for Rio Tinto’s Iron Ore Supplier Recognition Program Awards 2012 for outstanding work the lead projects firm is delivering for the top miner’s iron ore business in the development of one of Australia’s biggest industrial ports.

Manager Engineering Representative Steve Russell, who accepted the award, said SKM was assessed against other service suppliers in best practices. “This is deserved recognition for our entire team for the service that we have provided to our client,” he said, adding “this year also marks the 50th year of SKM supporting Rio Tinto’s Iron Ore business.”

Rio’s awards aim to improve the supply chain while recognizing supplier performances across the country’s Western Australian iron ore business. Rio Tinto’s evaluation was based on data throughout 2012. SKM is carrying out the engineering, procurement and management for Rio Tinto’s Cape Lambert Port B project—one of the largest such resource projects in Australian history.

Sinclair Knight Merz is a top projects firm, with global reach in consulting, engineering, and project delivery with operations in Asia, the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Africa with 7,500 employees in more than 40 offices.
