Officials at Orbite Aluminae Inc. have announced an offtake agreement with Glencore International AG, a subsidiary of the newly merged titan Glencore Xstrata plc, for the purchase of smelter-grade alumina (SGA) from its proposed Quebec-based SGA processing plant.

Under the agreement, Glencore will purchase all of the alumina from Orbite’s proposed SGA plant for the first 10 years following initial commercial production, while allowing for financial negotiations over the plant’s future ownership and operation. No timetable has been set.

Orbite Aluminae is a Canadian producer of alumina and other high-value byproducts, including rare earth and rare metal oxides using feedstocks with environmental mitigation through usage of aluminous clay, kaolin, nepheline, bauxite, red mud and fly ash. Orbite is now operating its first commercial high-purity alumina plant in Cap-Chat, Québec, having completed engineering for a smelter-grade alumina plant to use clay mined from its Grande-Vallée deposit. http://emj.epubxp.com/i/136091/89
