Normet Group Oy has acquired Norway’s Dynamic Rock Support AS (DRS). The acquisition broadens Normet’s offering for rock reinforcement with a new generation, the energy absorbent D-Bolt system. “It is gratifying to see technology developed in a start-up company and then take the next step in contribution to industry and society,” said DRS Chairman Thor Egil Five.

DRS, owned by ProVenture Seed, Salvesen & Thams, NTNU (the Norwegian University of Science and Technology), and its founders, is based in Trondheim, Norway, with subsidiaries in Australia and Canada. Founded in 2008, DRS develops high-technology equipment for underground mining, along with the D-Bolt, a rock bolt for rock reinforcement in squeezing and burst-prone strata. Following 2008 field tests and sales starting in 2010, DRS now has a strong market share in the Nordic region, Canada and Australia.

Finnish-based Normet provides technology for underground mining, manufacturing and marketing machines, chemicals, and explosive charging and underground logistics. Normet has 36 sales and service company offices in 24 countries and 1,000 employees.
