Atlatsa Resources has fired more than 2,000 striking workers at its Bokoni platinum mine in South Africa’s Limpopo province, according to Platinum Today. The junior platinum miner confirmed that 2,161 employees taking part in unprotected industrial action at Bokoni since October 1 have been dismissed.

It follows the granting of a court interdict in favor of the company and shortly after Anglo American Platinum dismissed 12,000 striking employees at its Rustenburg mine. Dismissed employees were given up until the close of business October 10 to appeal their dismissal.

“Bokoni management continues to work with recognised employee representatives, the authorities and other stakeholders to support the restoration of law and order to the affected areas and to allow dismissed employees who wish to appeal their dismissal to return to work and do so without threat or intimidation,” Atlatsa said in a statement.
