The Perak state of Malaysia has signed two technical agreements with Hertfordshire, U.K.-based ITRI Ltd. and Cornwall’s Camborne School of Mines (CSM) to revive its tin mining industry with a government-owned company. The deal was brokered on behalf of Menteri Besar Inc. by its investment firm Menteri Besar Inc.

Once the world’s No. 1 tin producer, government officials of the Malaysian state, situated north of of the capital, Kuala Lumpur, see the collaboration as primary to sustainablity and cohesion. MB Inc. CEO Aminudin Hashim spoke of a “mining blueprint with the aim of the state in becoming a bustling haven.”

ITRI, he noted, was selected as as a foremost authority on tin research and development, and as a promoter of sustainable tin mining initiatives; the Camborne School of Mines, he added, has a a global reputation among its graduates within mining industry.

Professor Kip Jeffrey, First Quantum Minerals Professor of Mining Engineering at CSM emphasized the importance of knowledge in the area. “This is a great opportunity to apply the latest advances in sustainable mining technologies and practice to the tin industry and to pass them on to the next generation of engineers and researchers,” he said.
