KGHM Group officials have announced strategic investments, largely through Central KGHM Polska Miedź SA, to execute mining, smelting and waste storage-focused efficiency; more than 60% of developments, with positive social and environmental impacts, will take place in Poland.

Work will include accessing the deep-pit Głogów Głęboki Przemysłowy deposit for research, alongside exploration in newly concessioned areas in Poland’s Old Copper Belt. Construction of a second flash furnace and modernization of the Głogów smelter will accompany further updating of the Żelazny Most pond with new tailings storage through paste technology.

In the Americas, meanwhile, KGHM will continue modernization of the Legnica smelter at the open-pit Sierra Gorda asset in Chile. In Canada, the underground mine at Victoria and the open-cast project in Afton Ajax will also witness additional development.

“Exploration and production-related projects where we operate through innovation are the response to challenges of the sector around the world,” said KGHM Polska Miedź SA President Herbert Wirth. “We are executing a strategy that will ensure development for many years to come.”
