Swiss Tower Mills Minerals Ltd. and its technology partner Outotec, have won a conract providing a HIG1600 regrind mill for the Mutanda Mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Mutanda is a high-grade copper and cobalt miner in Katanga province operated by Glencore Xstrata plc which owns 54.5% of the project.

As of Q2 2013, Mutanda production was an annualized 120 ktpa; Glencore Xstrata is one of the world’s largest global diversified natural resource companies.

STM’s scope includes the HIGmillTM, complete with control and drive system, which can grind 118 tons of copper concentrate hourly with a F80 of 212 μm to a P80 of 35 μm.

The HIGmillTM provides a low specific grinding energy value with high power intensity, no recirculating loads, flexibility in variables and long maintenance intervals, according to Swiss Tower officials; deliveries are pending Q1 2014 and start-up is planned for autumn 2014.
