Officials at Frontier Mining Ltd. have announced the first shipment of copper cathode from their flagship Benkala Copper Project in Kazakhstan at the beginning of June. Since its commissioning in Q3 2012, they added, the Benkala SX-EW plant has produced more than 1,000 tons of LME grade A copper-cathode and shipped and sold approximately 953 tons.

Frontier has also begun constructing four additional leach pads, bringing ethe total to six. Optimization studies on the agglomeration, stacking and leach kinetics are planned to increase extraction rates, according to the company. Work continues to produce a JORC-compliant resource at South Benkala.

Frontier Mining Ltd. is a Kazakh-focused mining company incorporated in 1998. Following a merger with the private Kazakh mining group, Coville Intercorp Ltd., Frontier has a 100% stake in the Benkala asset. Further operations include the copper-porphyry deposit with associated gold and molybdenum at Baitemir with ore from Beschoku and Yubileiny, prospects located on a 25-km copper-gold trend.
