BHP Billiton plc officials have announced the launch of a new section at www.bhpbilliton.com called Society, uniting the world’s No. 1 miner’s global community and sustainability content into one online location. The section headlines news, studies and presentations, including sustainability reports, with updates to regulatory and compliance information.

The Community Review section, meanwhile, is now on the website, too. The publication outlines BHP community investments, while highlighting economic, education, environment, health, indigenous communities and disaster relief investments through more than 40 case studies. The Community Review is separate from BHP’s annual Sustainability Report, which details sustainability commitments, standards and performance requirements.

Some case studies include a world-class supplier program in Chile, job creation initiatives at BHP’s South African assets, endeavors protecting Australia’s environmental biodiversity, girls’ education programs in Pakistan, and drought relief in East Africa, according to company officials.

BHP Billiton representatives noted their company has a long history of community investment amid sustainable development-based partnerships in operation-based regions; these include more than 1,200 programs in 16 countries across six continents to which BHP has committed $1.5 billion worldwide over the past decade.
