Global engineering and project management firm AMEC has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction management contract by Rainy River Resources Ltd. for its Rainy River project, an advanced-stage gold project in northern Ontario. The contract value is undisclosed.

With a long relationship with the New Gold Inc. subsidiary, AMEC officials have previously provided extensive evironmental consulting support services for the Rainy River project, located in Ontario’s Fort Frances District, since 2011.

Accordingly, AMEC will manage all design and implementation pending pre-commissioning. The extended scope includes a greenfield, open-pit mine, a processing plant and ancillary facilities supporting a 21,000 ton-per-day (t/d) gold leach plant. Plans are afoot, said officials, to develop an underground mine following commercial production.

AMEC Mining and Metals President Bob Stanlake hailed the contract. “We are extremely pleased to have been selected,” he said. “We share common values and objectives that support a successful outcome at Rainy River.”
