ABB will deliver 12 hoist systems and shaft equipment to help top potash producer Uralkali increase output while improving energy efficiency. The hoist systems will be installed in Uralkali’s Solikams and Polovodova in Russia’s Perm region along with skips, cages, feeding conveyors and electrical equipment including medium and low voltage drives. The deliveries will take place between 2014 and 2018.

“Reliable hoisting equipment with low energy consumption is the key to productivity while reducing environmental impact,” said Remy Lanoue, ABB’s global product group manager Underground Mining, Business Unit Mining.

ABB’s control system, state-of-the-art drive system, as well as its more than 100 years of experience will accelerate Uralkali’s production capacity, ABB officials said.

Energy consumption per ton, meanwhile, will be reduced down to 30%; ABB previously installed two mine hoists for Uralkali.
