Alacer Gold Budgets Millions for Exploration in Western Australia

Alacer Gold has budgeted A$36 million for exploration during 2013 on tenements in the areas of its Higginsville and South Kalgoorlie gold operations in Western Australia. Alacer produced 136,687 oz of gold at its Higginsville operations 125 km south of Kalgoorlie during 2012. Exploration in the region during 2013 is budgeted at A$16 million and is targeting discoveries that will extend the currently planned gold production of more than 150,000 oz/y beyond 2016. Work during 2013 is focusing on targets generated by Alacer’s Higginsville 2012 exploration, which included an extensive anomaly generation program across the Higginsville tenure.

New Gold Announces Increase at Blackwater

New Gold announced in early April that it increased the measured and indicated gold resources at it Blackwater gold project 160 km southwest of Prince George, British Columbia, to 8.6 million oz at a grade of 0.88 g/mt from the previous total of 8 million oz at a grade of 0.85 g/mt reported at year-end 2012.
Stornoway Diamond Corp Reports Results of Bulk-sample Diamonds

Stornoway Diamond Corp. reported the results of an independent valuation of bulk-sample diamonds recovered from the Renard 65 kimberlite pipe on its Renard diamond project in north-central Quebec. The sample was undertaken with a view to the potential conversion of material currently classified as inferred mineral resource to indicated mineral resource and, if warranted, to mineral reserve. The valuation has confirmed a high-quality diamond population at Renard 65 that Stornoway anticipates will allow the addition of a substantial quantity of new, open-pit resources to the project’s mine plan.

Lara Exploration Signs Letter of Intent

Lara Exploration signed a Letter of Intent with Antofagasta Minerals for an option and joint-venture agreement on Lara’s Sami gold-copper project in Ayacucho and Huancavelica departments in southern Peru. Under the terms of the letter of intent, Antofagasta can invest $6 million in exploration over four years to earn an initial 55% interest in the project, of which the first-year expenditures of $500,000 would be a firm commitment.

Osisko Mining reports that new drilling at its Upper Beaver gold project in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, has led to the discovery of two new gold-copper zones. Osisko acquired the Upper Beaver project when in acquired Queenston mining in a transaction that was completed in December 2012.

Renaissance Minerals Announces Inferred Resource Estimate of Gold in Okvau Gold Deposit

Renaissance Minerals has announced a new, independent, JORC-compliant, indicated and inferred resource estimate of 15.6 million mt grading 2.4 g/mt gold, for 1.2 million oz of contained gold, for its 100%-owned Okvau gold deposit in eastern Cambodia. Approximately 93% of the resource is classified as indicated. The indicated component of the resource is above 300 m below surface, with a gold cut-off of 0.65 g/mt. The depth and geometry of the deposit make it amenable to open-pit mining.

North American Nickel Planns 2013 Summer Drill Campaign

North American Nickel is planning a 2013 summer drill campaign at its 100%-owned Maniitsoq nickel-copper-cobalt-platinum group metals project in southwest Greenland, where modeling of airborne and downhole EM data collected in 2012 has identified two particularly high-conductance targets. Fieldwork will begin in May, and drilling is scheduled to begin in June. A minimum of 3,000 m of drilling is planned.

Brockman Mining Announces Inferred Mineral Resource

Brockman Mining has announced an initial inferred mineral resource of 109 million mt grading 60.03% iron for the Sirius deposit on its Ophthalmia iron ore project, located about 15 km north of Newman township in Western Australia. Together with recently announced resources for the Coondiner and Kalgan Creek deposits, total direct shipping ore (DSO) mineral resources at the Ophthalmia project now stand at 269 million mt grading 59.16% iron.

Tintina Resources Announces New Resource Estimate for Lowry Deposit

Tintina Resources, a Canadian junior company headquartered in Vancouver, has announced a new resource estimate for the Lowry deposit on its 100%-owned Black Butte copper project located about 100 km south of Great Falls, Montana, USA. When combined with a previously announced resource of the Johnny Lee deposit, the two deposits give the project a measured and indicated resource of 1.18 billion lb of copper at a grade of 3.4% copper and an inferred resource of 140 million lb of copper at a grade of 2.8% copper. The resource also includes cobalt and silver values.

Dolly Varden Silver Corp. Enters Into Agreement With Musketeer Developments Ltd.

Dolly Varden Silver Corp. has entered into an option agreement with Musketeer Developments Ltd. and certain other parties to acquire 100% of the Musketeer property in northwestern British Columbia. Dolly Varden’s 100%-owned Dolly Varden silver property completely surrounds the Musketeer property. More importantly, mineral tenures of the company’s historic silver mines—Torbrit, Wolf, North Star and Dolly Varden—abut the northern and southern boundaries of the Musketeer property. Extensions of these deposits will be targeted on the Musketeer property in 2013.

Avocet Resources Signs Joint Venture with U308 Corp.

Avocet Resources has signed a definitive farm-in and joint-venture agreement with U3O8 Corp. regarding U3O8’s 100%-owned Sierra Cuadrada uranium project in Chubut province, Argentina. Under the agreement, Avocet can earn a 51% interest in the Sierra Cuadrada Joint Venture project by spending $1 million in exploration over a maximum of four years. Avocet will manage exploration of the project.
