Vizada, a major provider of satellite network operator services, and Mexican service provider MultiSAT announced in late October they are now offering a broad range of mobile satellite services and solutions for the Mexican mining industry, including IsatPhone Link; vehicular BGAN; and the Iridium Extreme handset with integrated GPS.

Through its partnership with Vizada, MultiSAT offers voice and broadband data services across multiple satellite network operators, including Inmarsat, Iridium and Thuraya.

“Satellite communications offers mining organizations great onsite benefits,” said Fabio Alencar, director of Latin American sales for Vizada. “Organizations and on-the-ground personnel get an instant connection, see significant improvements in efficiency and portability, and more importantly, they can better ensure workers’ safety wherever they may be.”

MultiSAT sells and services Vizada’s entire portfolio involving basic broadband and IP-based connectivity services on land, at sea or in flight. Solutions include messaging, Fixed2Mobile calling, prepaid solutions and IP and networking applications. The Vizada Group was formed in September 2007 and combines the former Telenor Satellite Services and France Telecom Mobile Satellite Communications, both formerly owned by Apax France.

The services include:

• IsatPhone Link: Complementing the IsatPhone Pro handset introduced earlier this year, this is a land-based, global satellite phone service providing voice connectivity and circuit-switched data and messaging communications. IsatPhone Link can be used as a remote call center, serving as an exploration site phone or as a temporary fixed location phone. It can also be used for providing remote site offices with voice connectivity or serve as backup to primary communications.
• Vehicular BGAN: Comprising an interior terminal and tracking antenna mounted               on a vehicle’s roof, Vehicular BGAN delivers mobile voice and high-speed data connectivity.
• Iridium Extreme: This Iridium handset has fully integrated GPS to allow for location-based services such as online tracking and emergency SOS notification. Vizada says its secure web portal enables administrators to view and monitor Iridium Extreme users in the field through available tracking and mapping services.
