Caterpillar has developed a new hardened steel Quarry Body for select models of Cat trucks, fabricated with 400 Brinnell steel to resist abrasion and provide superior durability without additional weight or liner systems. Eliminating the need for liners also eliminates the replacement costs and downtime associated with their maintenance. The Quarry Body is designed to handle low- to medium-density materials that have low to medium abrasiveness; Cat recommends that hauled materials be limited to a maximum of 5.5 to 6.0 on the Mohs hardness scale. The body’s flat floor configuration retains loads well when hauling on roads with grades in the 8%–12% range. The new body is being introduced for the Cat 770, 772 and 775F rigid-frame trucks, with payload ratings of 36 mt (40 tons), 46 mt (50 tons) and 64 mt (70 tons), respectively.
