Harmony Gold and Newcrest Mining are undertaking a feasibility study to evaluate an underground exploration program at their Wafi-Golpu gold-copper project in Morobe province, Papua New Guinea (PNG). The Johannesburg office of WorleyParsons TWP has been engaged to prepare the feasibility study for a proposed exploration shaft for consideration and approval by the 50:50 joint venture.

December 2013 Exploration Briefs

TomaGold and Iamgold have finalized an option agreement whereby Iamgold may earn a 50% interest in each of TomaGold’s Monster Lake, Winchester and Lac à l’Eau Jaune properties near the Chibougamau mining camp in northwestern Quebec for a total of $17.575 million, including $16 million in exploration work and $1.575 million in payments over five years.

November 2013

North American Nickel has intersected high-grade nickel-copper-cobalt mineralization at its Imiak Hill discovery in the northern part its 100%-owned Maniitsoq project in southwest Greenland. Highlights include 25.51 m grading 3.25% nickel, 0.48% copper, and 0.11% cobalt at 149 m down the hole in one hole and 14.90 m grading 2.67% nickel, 0.39% copper and 0.09% cobalt at 136 m down the hole in another.

September 2013

Paramount Gold and Silver reported that new core drilling at its 100%-owned Sleeper gold project in Nevada has intercepted gold and silver mineralization west of the Pad zone and below the Sleeper pit operated by Amax Gold from 1986 to 1996. Paramount recently completed 24 core holes totaling 10,313 m at Sleeper in a program designed to extend known resource areas, acquire material for metallurgical testing, and update the resource model.
