Boart Longyear has introduced its RC6 drill, a lightweight and compact reverse circulation (RC) rig that also includes coring, down-the-hole-hammer (DTH) and rotary drilling capabilities. The RC6, according to the company, offers several key safety features including intuitive control panels, low-noise operation, a safety cage and emergency trip wires. When equipped with an optional radio remote control for driving, the RC6 can maneuver on slopes up to 30°. The 8,000-kg (17,000-lb) RC6 delivers 5.5 tons of pullback, has a 4-m feed stroke, and features a rotary head with up to 6,540 Nm of torque. It is powered by a 72-kW (96-hp) Deutz air-cooled diesel.
