Utah, USA-based Young’s Machine Co. has been building underground haul trucks and equipment since 1953. Two of its product ranges include machines that are specially designed for use in narrow-vein operations and other confined spaces. The company’s 470 Series trucks have four-wheel drive with articulated steering, and range in size from the very narrow 7 mt (7.5 short ton) size up to a 10.9-mt (12-ton) capacity unit. Machine widths range from 1.57 m to 1.88 m (60-74 in.), with the smallest in the line-up being 5.8 m (19 ft 2 in.) long and 2.1 m (83 in.) high to the top of the operator’s canopy. The tipping height needed for this particular vehicle is just 2.7 m (105 in.). The company said its 960 Series offers a simple and inexpensive line of ore-haulage equipment designed for small-heading operations. The basic, uncomplicated design provides easy maintenance and economical operation. The three models in the range offer carrying capacities of 3.2, 6.4 and 9.5 mt (3, 5, 7 and 10.5 ton).
The design of these trucks is unusual, with essentially a tricycle wheel layout using a pair of close-fitted front wheels for steering, and drive provided through the rear axle.
