Manitowoc recently displayed a new rough-terrain crane fitted with KZTM100, which it said is the first synthetic hoist rope designed specifically for mobile cranes—the result of a joint application development between Samson, a leading synthetic rope manufacturer, and Manitowoc.
Benefits of the new synthetic hoist rope range from its 80% lighter weight advantage over wire rope and its torque-neutral construction that eliminates load spin and cabling; to its easy handling, reeving and installation qualities that reduce kinking, bird caging and damage from other types of cable-spooling issues. KZTM100 was featured at a recent trade show on the 65-metric-ton-capacity RT770E, a new rough-terrain crane from Grove, and will be available as an option on all Grove rough-terrain cranes in late 2014. The RT770E boasts a 42-m (138-ft) five-section, full-power boom, with single-cylinder technology that eliminates the need for a hydraulic hose reel, lightening the boom, and in turn, the entire crane. The design also eliminates the need to install boom inserts, which require an assist crane.
