Vermeer has developed a new, full-function remote control system for its line of surface excavation machines that will enable the operator to control a machine from up to 500 ft (152.4 m) away. The system can be retrofitted to be compatible with any older model specialty excavation product that features the TEC Plus electronic control system, and is available for installation on machines up to the T1255III Terrain Leveler.
The remote unit is attached to a vest that is strapped to the operator’s torso; the control panel lies flat in front of the operator, and has a metal frame around the outside to help provide support. A visual indicator is installed on the machine to alert others that it is being operated remotely with no operator on board. The remote control system can be installed by a local Vermeer specialty excavation product specialist.
