Orlaco has introduced EMOS, a shock-resistant Ethernet camera with a fast 100-Mb/s connection that, according to the company, enables it to produce images that are displayed in real time. The camera is claimed to be suitable for use in extreme conditions, such as mounting on trucks, cranes, heavy construction and mining equipment, semiautomatic or remote-controlled vehicles, and more.
EMOS is small (55 x 60 x 24 mm), light (150 g) and energy efficient (<2W). It is available with view angles of 180, 120 or 90 degrees (60- and 30-degree models will be introduced to the market later this year), and is designed to be completely operational within two seconds after startup, according to Orlaco. Maximum latency is 48 ms at 30 fps or 31 ms at 60 fps. In combination with a common hardware processing platform, such as IMX6 or ARM, total latency of the camera-monitor system is less than 100 ms.
EMOS features CMOS chip technology and contains integrated functions such as automatic white balance, photometric and geometric lens correction, mirror imaging, and the ability to rotate images 180 degrees. Nighttime imagery is claimed to be excellent. The camera is shock-resistant (50 G), vibration-resistant (15 GRMS at a frequency of 24 – 2,000 Hz) and can withstand temperatures from -40° to +85°C. Its aluminum housing is waterproof (IP68/IP69k) and allows the camera to be used under water to a depth of 10 m.
