Anglo to Divest Callide in Australia

Anglo American began a divestment process for its Callide thermal coal mine in Central Queensland, Australia. The strategy for Anglo American’s Metallurgical Coal business, based in Australia, is to focus on growing its metallurgical coal and high margin export thermal coal businesses. The Callide mine primarily supplies domestic power stations in Queensland. The mine produced 8.8 million metric tons of thermal coal in 2009 and has expansion potential from its resource base of more than 1 billion mt.
