Liebherr Mining Equipment plans to invest $45.4 million through 2014 to expand its mine-truck manufacturing factory, warehouse and office space in Newport News, Virginia, USA.  The expansion, according to the company, is in accordance with its ongoing program to develop new mining truck models and to increase production capabilities to handle a yearly output of more than 100 units.

The company will begin production of its new 240-ton T 264 mining truck early in 2014, as well as maintain ongoing production of the 400-ton T 284. Development of a 320-ton capacity truck also is under way.

The expansion project will include installation of new machining and painting equipment, construction of facilities for improved material flow and product shipping and a new training center, plus office space to house manufacturing management, quality management and other production support staff.

Liebherr said it expects to hire more than 150 new workers during the expansion period, increasing its workforce to more than 600 employees.
