FLSmidth announced in August that it has won a five-year contract from SCM Minera Lumina Copper for supply of maintenance services to their Caserones copper and molybdenum plant located in the Andes mountains, approximately 865 km northeast of the capital of Santiago, Chile.

The contract, according to the company, includes a mechanical maintenance organization of some 110 persons intended to provide the customer with a reduction in their overall maintenance costs and at the same time increase production through higher equipment reliability. The value of the contract was not disclosed.

“With this new maintenance contract, FLSmidth is undertaking two large maintenance contracts in Chile, and in combination, these contracts give us a strong foothold in the Chilean mining industry, while also opening up other opportunities both in Chile and the region in general,” said Executive Vice President Bjarne Moltke Hansen.

SCM Minera Lumina Copper is a familiar customer of FLSmidth through earlier purchases of major equipment for the Caserones plant.

FLSmidth announced in November 2012 that it had won a five-year extension, worth approximately $190 million, to an existing maintenance contract with Minera Los Pelambres to supply maintenance services for their copper and molybdenum plant in central Chile.

Minera Los Pelambres is another long-time customer, with all major process equipment at the plant having been supplied by FLSmidth, starting in the late 1990s and with subsequent additionsin 2003–2007. The Pelambres plant processes around 175,000 metric tons per day (mt/d) of primary and secondary copper ore.
