Aker Solutions, a global engineering and construction services provider, has signed a strategic partnership agreement with South African project house, TWP Projects, intended to enable the companies to collaborate on large minerals processing projects in Africa.

TWP Projects Managing Director Digby Glover said the two companies offer a complementary skills set which will allow the partnership to rapidly mobilize significant resources and expertise on large projects in Africa. TWP has  been involved in the mining and resource sectors since 1982, and has developed a strong presence in the southern African market. Aker Solutions’ South African office was established in Johannesburg in November 2008, with an initial focus on the mining and metals and nuclear markets.

Johan Cnossen, senior vice president for Europe, Middle East and Africa in Aker Solutions’ Process and Construction business, said, “In terms of the overarching agreement, Aker Solutions and TWP will work together to execute large minerals processing and hydrometallurgical projects in Africa. With Aker Solutions’ global presence we may review opportunities further afield where required. This alliance offers clients full service, from geological services, including resource definition, through to mining, processing and final product, for most minerals.”

Discussions on opportunities for collaboration on project work began in November 2009 when both companies were working for the same client in Namibia. “We realized there was the potential to grow a substantial project portfolio by entering into a partnership with one another,” said Glover.
