Atlas Copco announced it will focus on zero-emission and battery-driven machinery. The company has immediate plans to expand its current portfolio of electric mining equipment, including loaders, drill rigs andmine trucks.

The company reported it will continue to support all customers who rely on diesel-driven equipment.

FLSmidth’s Acquisition of Mining Systems From Sandvik Almost Complete

The previously announced acquisition of the Sandvik Mining Systems projects business by FLSmidth has concluded except for the transfer of assets in South Africa, which is awaiting merger control clearance. The acquisition includes continuous surface mining and minerals handling technologies and competences.

South African Platinum Miner Gets 2 Conveyors

Booysendal Platinum Ltd. tapped Doppelmayr Transport Technology GmbH to construct a RopeCon system to transport ore from mining modules in the south of the concession 4.9 kilometers (km) to the concentrator plant. The system will transport up to 900 tons per hour (t/h) with an overall vertical climb of 530 meters (m). It will be completed in 2019.

Jacobs is Selected for Prefeasibility Study in Peru

Teck Resources and Aurubis AG contracted Jacobs Engineering Group to perform the prefeasibility study for a proposed copper cathode production facility in Peru. Jacobs will provide capital expenditure and operational expenditure estimates to Teck and Aurubis for determining project prefeasibility. Teck and Aurubis’ conceptual copper cathode production facility will incorporate their proprietary CESL copper-arsenic process technology, providing high copper and precious metal recoveries, controlled arsenic deportment, and reduced environmental impact compared to traditional pyrometallurgical smelter processing. Jacobs currently supports copper processing facility projects in Asia, North America and South America.

Metso acquired Australia-based wear lining solutions provider WEARX. The latter’s sales in fiscal year 2017, which ended June 30, were $27 million. Headquartered in Newcastle, WEARX, with 140 employees, has operations in Ballina, Orange and Perth.

Roof Support Tunneling Vancouver Island

DSI’s 139 Pipe Umbrella Support System, the DYWI Drill spiles and face bolts, and PANTEX Lattice Girders were used to rebuild a section of the main access tunnel to the John Hart Generating Station, on Vancouver Island. During the modernization of the station, weak ground was encountered about halfway through the tunnel. DSI and other teams spearheaded an excavation and the project. The station has been operating since 1947.

Şişecam Group contracted Gebr. Pfeiffer for a MPS 140 B mill for fine-grinding kaolin at the former’s glass fiber plant in Balikesir. The scope of supply includes the complete grinding plant, from the material dosing equipment through to the finished product transport.

Hudbay Extends Stracon GyM’s Contract

Hudbay Perú S.A.C. extended for two years its construction contract with Stracon GyM S.A., subsidiary of Grupo Graña y Montero, for work at the Constancia mine.
