CommodasUltrasort, the mining brand of Tomra Sorting Solutions, announced in June that it had been made a member of the international AngloGold Ashanti Technology Innovation Consortium. The consortium, based in South Africa, was established in 2011 by AngloGold Ashanti and, including CommodasUltrasort, now comprises 46 industrial companies, eight universities and research institutions known as innovators in their field. The aim of the consortium is to create new ways of thinking and new opportunities for deep level mining.

CommodasUltrasort said it was chosen as an expert partner for sensor-based solutions for gold ore sorting. Hartmut Harbeck, technical director at CommodasUltrasort, said that the partnership will “allow us to network with exclusive partners and share knowledge.”

AngloGold Ashanti was formed in 2004 following the business partnership between AngloGold and Ashanti Goldfields Co. Ltd. AngloGold Ashanti is currently the third largest gold producer in the world.

Tomra Sorting Solutions is a provider of sensor-based sorting solutions, with more than 10,000 systems in place across mining and other industries. According to the company, it has engineered groundbreaking detection systems, sensor technology and computing solutions. Tomra Sorting Solutions is part of the Norwegian group TOMRA Systems ASA.

CommodasUltrasort has provided sensor-based sorting technology for dry material separation in various minerals and ore applications since 1988.
