Sundance Resources, an Australian junior exploration company, lost its entire board of directors on June 19, 2010, in a crash of a chartered plane that was flying them to the company’s Mbalme iron ore project in Cameroon, Africa. Sundance personnel on the plane included Geoff Wedlock, chairman; Don Lewis, managing director and CEO; John Carr-Gregg, company secretary; and non-executive directors Ken Talbot, John Jones and Craig Oliver. Also on board were Jeff Duff, a consultant to Sundance Resources; Natasha Flason, personal assistant to Talbot; James Cassley, a British citizen and representative of a Canadian investment bank; and two pilots, whose names were not released.


Kinross Gold Corp. has appointed Brant Hinze executive vice president and COO.


Goldcorp Inc. has appointed David Deisley executive vice president, corporate affairs and general counsel and Timo Jauristo has been appointed executive vice president, corporate development. The company also announced that George Burns was promoted to senior vice president, Canada and U.S. Operations; Barry Olson was promoted to senior vice president, project development; Charlie Ronkos was promoted to senior vice president, exploration; Gerry Atkinson was promoted to senior vice president, human resources; Colette Rustad was promoted to senior vice president and controller; Mark Ruus was promoted to senior vice president, tax; and Cheryl Sedestrom was promoted to senior vice president, metals marketing.


Alcoa has named Tony R. Thene CFO of Alcoa’s Engineered Products and Solutions business group and Graeme Bottger has been elected to succeed Thene as Alcoa vice president and controller. Thene will remain a vice president and has been named to the company’s Executive Council.


JKTech has appointed Dr. Dan Alexander CEO of JKTech Pty Ltd, the technology transfer company of the Sustainable Minerals Institute of the University of Queensland. Dr. Alexander has been acting in this role after the previous incumbent, Dr. Geoff Gault, took role of director of the Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre (JKMRC).


Mechel OAO has named Igor Zyuzin chairman of the board of directors and Yevgeny Mikhel CEO. Vladimir Polin, Mechel’s senior vice president, is leaving the company since construction of the divisional management structure is completed. His position will be eliminated.


Donaldson Co. announced the promotion of Dan Memmen to national sales director of the engine aftermarket group. He replaces Rick Kashmerick who is retiring.


The Chamber of Mines has appointed Bhekokuhle “Bheki” Sibiya chief executive-designate. Current Chief Executive Mzolisi Diliza, who was scheduled to retire at the end of June 2010, has agreed to stay in the job until December to manage the agreed period of induction and transition.

Western Copper also announced that one of its employees, Jim Marlow, senior mining engineer, recently passed away.
