Rio Tinto’s new organizational structure will include four product groups: Aluminum, Copper & Diamonds, Energy & Minerals, and Iron Ore. These groups will be complemented by a newly shaped Growth & Innovation group. Alfredo Barrios will remain as chief executive of Aluminum. Chris Salisbury, currently acting Copper & Coal chief executive, will become Iron Ore chief. Arnaud Soirat, currently Aluminum Primary Metal president and chief executive officer, will join the Executive Committee as Copper & Diamonds chief executive. Alan Davies, currently Diamonds & Minerals chief executive, will be the Energy and Minerals chief executive. Stephen McIntosh, currently acting Technology & Innovation Group executive, will take up the role of Growth & Innovation Group executive. Joanne Farrell, currently the global head of Health, Safety, Environment and Communities, will take on the role of Group executive, Health, Safety & Environment. Andrew Harding, currently Iron Ore chief executive, will leave the business. Debra Valentine is the Legal & Regulatory Affairs Group executive.

Anglo American appointed Bruce Cleaver as CEO of the De Beers Group following Philippe Mellier’s decision to step down after five years. Duncan Wanblad, CEO of Anglo American’s Base Metals business, will add the Strategy & Business Development portfolio of Anglo American to his responsibilities. Cleaver served as De Beers’ executive director responsible for strategy and commercial relationships until 2015, and served as co-acting CEO for a year prior to Mellier’s appointment.

AuRico Metals Inc. appointed John Miniotis as vice president, corporate development, and the appointment of David Flahr as vice president, finance. Miniotis joined AuRico Metals from Lundin Mining where he played a leading role advancing their mergers and acquisitions and investor relations efforts over the past six years. Flahr joined AuRico Metals at its inception in July 2015 and is responsible for the company’s corporate reporting, regulatory compliance and internal control environment.

Kirkland Lake Gold Inc. announced that George Ogilvie has resigned and has appointed Anthony (Tony) P. Makuch as CEO. Most recently, he was president of Canadian Operations, Tahoe Resources Inc. Following Makuch’s departure, Ron Clayton, Tahoe’s president and COO, will assume day-to-day management of the Lake Shore Gold Division. Makuch joined Tahoe in April following the acquisition of Lake Shore Gold, where he had served as president and CEO.

Monarques Gold Corp. announced that Donald Trudel has been appointed chief geologist for the Croinor gold project. Most recently, Trudel was a senior reserve and resource estimation geologist in West Africa.

Katanga Mining Ltd. announced that Don Peterson, COO, has resigned to pursue other opportunities.

Hecla Mining Co. announced that Lindsay Hall has accepted the position of senior vice president and CFO, following the retirement of James Sabala. Recently, Hall was executive vice president and CFO of Goldcorp Inc.

Magellan Gold Corp. appointed W. Pierce Carson as president and CEO and a member of the board of directors. Previously, he was president of Gulf & Western Industries Inc. John C. Power, formerly president of Magellan, will continue in the roles of CFO and director.

Pilbara Minerals Ltd. appointed corporate finance executive Brian Lynn as the CFO. Most recently, he was CFO at Atlas Iron.

Royal Gold Inc. promoted Mark Isto to vice president of operations. Isto joined Royal Gold in 2015 and previously served as executive director, project evaluation. Prior to joining Royal Gold, Isto served as vice president of operations for First Nickel.

Cyprium Mining Corp. appointed Rosario Mundo as manager of finance and administration of all of its operations in Mexico. Most recently, she was with Minefinders Corp. Ltd. and Coeur Mining Inc. Cyprium also announced that Alejandro Anchondo, formerly project and operations manager, will now be the business development and operations manager.

LeadFX Inc. announced that Robert Scargill, the current managing director of LeadFX, has been appointed as president and CEO. The former president and CEO, Wayne Richardson, is stepping down to focus on the development of Enirgi Group’s projects, LeadFX’s affiliate, but will continue to serve as a member of the LeadFX board.

Wellgreen Platinum Ltd. announced that Diane R. Garrett has joined the company as president and CEO and a member of the board of directors. Most recently, Garrett was president, CEO and director of Romarco Minerals Inc.

Dr. Daniel Kontak, full professor in the department of earth sciences at Laurentian University, has been named the 2016 winner of the Duncan R. Derry Medal, awarded by the Geological Association of Canada. The medal is awarded annually by the association’s mineral deposits division to the outstanding economic geologist who has made significant contributions to the science of economic geology in Canada.

Outotec appointed Markku Tersvasara as the new CEO. He will start November 1. Currently, he is president of Atlas Copco’s Mining and Rock Excavation Service Division.

The Colorado Mining Association named Stan Dempsey as its next president and COO. He succeeds Stuart Sanderson, who will retire September 30.

Siemens has appointed Norbert Becker to head its global mobile mining segment in Nuremberg, Germany. Prior to this promotion, he was heading the Siemens Minerals Excavation and Transportation department as a vice president in Erlangen, Germany. Christian Dirscherl will take over that position with business responsibility for crushers, conveyors, hoists and mills for mining companies worldwide. Daniel Robertson was promoted to regional mobile mining business manager for North America with responsibility for domestic customers and global product lifecycle management for shovels, draglines, and haul trucks.
