BHP Billiton announced the appointment of Chris Campbell as president of its iron ore business, replacing Ian Ashby who will become CEO of the Western Australia Iron Ore production joint venture with Rio Tinto. In his new role, Campbell will have overall responsibility for the company’s global iron ore operations. The company also announced that Don Argus will retire as chairman and a non-executive director. Paul Anderson and Dr. Gail de Planque have retired from the board of directors, and Malcolm Broomhead and Carolyn Hewson will be appointed non-executive directors at the end of March.


Rio Tinto has appointed Ian Bauert as managing director, China. Based in Shanghai, he will lead Rio Tinto’s employees in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

De Beers appointed Neo Moroka to the newly created position of resident director and CEO of De Beers Botswana.

Dr. Chris A. Fleming has been named the recipient of the 2010 Canadian Mineral Processor of the Year Award. This award recognizes members of the Metallurgical Society of CIM who have contributed significantly to the advancement of metallurgy in Canada, either through their career or outstanding individual contributions. He is vice president, global metallurgy, SGS, and has authored or co-authored 82 technical publications, been awarded 15 patents and contributed to several technical books on various aspects of extractive metallurgy. He is recognized throughout the industry for his contributions to the commercialization of the carbon-in-pulp and resin-in-pulp processes in gold extraction, as well as for the development of the Augment, Hannah, SART, and Platsol processes.

Silver Standard Resources Inc. announced Robert A. Quartermain has resigned as president and CEO. The board of directors is conducting a search for his successor. Pending the completion of the search, A.E. Michael Anglin will step in as interim president and CEO. Anglin has been a director of Silver Standard since 2008.

Great Basin Gold has named Dana Roets vice president-corporate development.

Molycorp Minerals has appointed James S. Allen to CFO. The company also announced that Dr. John L. Burba, Ph.D., has been promoted executive vice president and chief technology officer; John F. Ashburn Jr. has been promoted to executive vice president and General Counsel; and Jared M. Benedict has been named manager, financial reporting.

Fortune Minerals Ltd. announced the appointment of Jared Orynik as senior metallurgist for the company’s proposed Saskatchewan Metals Processing plant.

Hecla Mining Co. announced the appointment of David C. Sienko as vice president-General Counsel.

Rambler Metals & Mining plc announced Tim Sanford has been named chief mine engineer and Shaun Gage has been named senior mine engineer.

Normet International Ltd. announced the appointment of Odd-Bjørn Kleven as director, tunneling and special projects.

Ventana Gold Corp. has appointed Blair Way vice president project development.

Detour Gold Corp. has appointed Pierre Beaudoin senior vice president, capital projects. He will be responsible for advancing the Detour Lake gold project toward production.

Kirkland Lake Gold Inc. announced Mark Stephen Tessier has been appointed COO and John Sidney Thomson has been appointed CFO.

Frontier announced George Neville Ralph Cole will succeed Thomas Ian Sinclair as CFO. Sinclair will remain as an executive director with specific responsibilities for strategy, mergers and acquisitions.

Centurion Minerals Ltd. announced the appointment of Simon Meldrum as consulting exploration geologist. He will be responsible for the design and implementation of the exploration programs on the company’s Indonesian projects.

Kola Mining Corp. announced Igor Kovarsky has resigned as president and CEO. Sergei Dubovik has been appointed as the new president and CEO.

Affinity Gold appointed Paul Antoniazzi CEO. Antonio Rotundo stepped down as CEO prior to the appointment, but remains president, CFO, and a director.

Guinness Exploration announced John E. Hiner will lead geological operations for the Nantawa Project, set of mineral claims for the Mount Nansen and the Tawa gold and silver exploration properties in the Yukon.

Turner & Townsend, a global construction consultancy, announced the appointment of John Gravel as a vice president to the metals and mining team in North America.

The CEO of A. Friedrich Flender AG, Manfred Egelwisse, will be resigning at the end of March. Dipl.-Ing. Theo Maas will take charge of the Siemens Mechanical Drives Business Unit.

Apollo Gold appointed Wendy Yang vice president of investor relations.

Transitioning from exploration to resource expansion, Northern Freegold Resources appointed Bill Harris chairman. He will retain his COO title. Susan Craig, currently president, will also assume CEO duties of the company.

Pinnacle Resources has appointed Jason Shapiro CFO and director.

Majescor Resources Inc. announced the appointment of Daniel F. Hachey as president and CEO. He replaces Marc-Andre Bernier who has stepped down to hold the position of vice president exploration. Bernier will remain on the board of directors. Majescor also announced Jacques Letendre has resigned from the board to become a consultant to the company. He will be replaced on the board by Hachey.

Alexis Minerals Corp. announced the appointment of Jamie Lavigne as vice president exploration.

Franklin Mining, Inc. announced the appointment of Mark L. Kesselman as executive vice president for corporate development.

Kodiak Exploration Ltd. announced the appointment of Darren Lindsay as vice president-exploration.

Orvana Minerals Corp. announced the appointment of Donald P. Gray as vice president, mining.

BacTech Mining Corp. announced the appointment of Dr. Junxiang Guo as vice president, metallurgy.
