The Mining Association of Canada announced that Robert “Bob” Steane, senior vice-president and COO of Cameco Corp., has been elected as chair for a two-year term. Steane replaces Zoë Yujnovich, vice president of oil sands operations for Shell Canada, who served as chair from June 2013 to June 2015.

Mining Hall of Fame Recognizes Five Industry Leaders

The National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum announced the 2015 inductees and the 2015 Prazen Award winner. This year’s inductees, selected by the Hall of Fame’s Board of Governors, represent technology, management, mineral policy, education, and health and safety aspects of the mining industry. They envelope a diverse cross-section of the mining industry and were selected for being visionaries, leaders, educators and ambassadors.

Ammar Al-JoundiAgnico Eagle Mines Ltd. made several senior management appointments. Ammar Al-Joundi became president of the Canadian gold miner. He most recently served as CFO and senior executive vice-president for Barrick Gold. As a result, Sean Boyd's title will change to vice-chairman and CEO. Dominique Girard has been appointed vice president-technical services and Nunavut operations. To support Girard in his new functions, Nancy Guay was appointed senior corporate director-technical services.

BHP Billiton announced the executive committee for the proposed demerger of global metals and mining company, South32, which includes David Crawford, chairman; Graham Kerr, CEO; Brendan Harris, CFO; Ricus Grimbeek, president and COO, Australia; Mike Fraser, president and COO, Africa; and Nicole Duncan, chief legal officer and company secretary.
