Gold Fields recently contracted Trolex South Africa to install a Sentinel methane recovery monitoring system at its Beatrix gold mine in South Africa’s Free State Province. Conforming to the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)—part of the Kyoto Protocol—Beatrix is capturing methane gas at various locations underground and transporting it to the surface through a methane extraction column. The gas will be flared and also used to generate electricity. The Trolex system is installed at strategic locations along the extraction column to monitor the condition of the gas.

Trolex has had a presence in the South African market for more than 27 years either through a distributor or through Trolex South Africa. Other South African customers for Trolex gas monitoring systems and condition monitoring technology include SASOL, Joy Mining Machinery and Sandvik.
