Liebherr Completes Field Tests for T236 Hauler
At an international press event recently in Leoben, Austria, Liebherr showcased its T 236 mining truck. This 100-metric-ton (mt) haul truck, which is powered by a diesel-electric drive system, is the first in this class with a four-corner, oil immersed braking system. Since its debut at MINExpo 2016 in Las Vegas, the T 236 has successfully completed its testing phase and has recently started its first field operation trials at the Erzberg iron mine in Austria.
Screen Removes Large Rock Before Crushing
Lake Erie Portable Screeners introduced the Pitbull PB148 Static Grizzly, a screen that pairs with the Pitbull 2300 screening plant and is for sorting oversize material before screening or crushing. The 6,500-lb screen offers an 11-by-14-ft deck area and a 10-ft tip height. The bars are 3 in. wide with 3/8-in. wall thickness, and are spaced at 4 in. Additional bars are available if smaller openings are required.
New Size for Mining Tire Line
Goodyear added a new tire size, 20.5R25, to the AS-3A, an all-season tire for mining applications. The high net-to-gross 20.5R25 has a 40/32-in. tread depth (G3/L3) for enhanced traction, the company reported. Other features of the Goodyear AS-3A include specially placed blades for optimized ice and snow traction; multiple groove edges for excellent traction across all surfaces; flexible block elements for low stone retention; wide-base construction for high flotation, enhanced stability and low-ground pressure; and a unique groove shape for optimized self-cleaning in all conditions. The entire Goodyear AS-3A range is available through Goodyear’s comprehensive distribution network.
Safety Robot to Monitor Gasses, Map Mines
Enaex announced its Robominer, a teleoperated mine safety and exploration robot developed in collaboration with SRI International. The robot is designed to improve safety for miners, while expanding access to minerals that are difficult or expensive to reach, Enaex reported.
Haulage Scheduler Software for Underground
Deswik unveiled a new version of the Deswick: suite software that will feature new haulage functionality for underground mine operators. The Deswik.LHS for Underground module will let users create and visualize an underground haulage network from a 3-D mine model and integrate the results directly with the mine schedule, the company reported. The software simplifies the process of calculating haulage metrics for underground mine operations and presents the results in the form of 3-D animations. Results are amalgamated into the original schedule in Deswik.Sched (Gantt chart scheduling tool) to ensure single source reporting and enable estimations of truck requirements.
Spark-ignited Generators for Standby Power
Cummins announced the C125N6 and C150N6 models in the QSL8.9G Series. The commercial generator set is a fully integrated power generation system providing optimum performance, reliability, and versatility for stationary standby power applications, the company reported.
Drop-in Carbides for Vertical Shaft Impactors Available
Kolberg-Pioneer Inc. (KPI) released its Drop-in carbides for all models of vertical shaft impactors. The industry-standard drop-in carbide wear parts will decrease downtime required for service and maintenance by as much as 80%, the company reported. The drop-in carbides can be retrofitted into existing VSI crushers from KPI.
New High-strength Steel for Gears
TimkenSteel released three patent-pending ultra-high-strength, high-toughness steels. The grades’ higher levels of strength and toughness offer gear designers/manufacturers the ability to create improved gears that can achieve significant savings and performance advantages over those produced from more traditional steel grades, the company reported. Additional benefits may include reduced downtime and lower warranty costs.
Handheld Analyzer Updated for Mining
ThermoFisher Scientific updated the Niton XL5 analyzer with mining mode. It allows geologists and mining companies in early and late-stage exploration, as well as in mining operations, to accurately determine, measure and evaluate the elemental composition of geological samples from magnesium to uranium, within seconds, the company reported. The resulting data enables mining companies to locate on-site, and in real time, the most viable resources. Weighing only 2.8 lb with a compact, ergonomic design, the analyzer is designed to reduce operator fatigue. In addition to embedded GPS, the update includes Bluetooth GPS functionality. The functionality will enable users to record coordinates with high precision by leveraging external Bluetooth GPS devices, the company reported. Additionally, the update is designed to allow users to adjust the analyzer based on results of reference samples, and to enter their own calfactors to increase the accuracy of analysis. New accessories also include the Thermo Scientific mini test stand, which is lightweight, collapsible and designed to improve portability, and the Thermo Scientific soil guard and backscatter shield.
High-performance Fluid Grease for Long-term Lubrication
Klüber Lubrication offers Klübersynth BEM 44-4600, a semi-fluid grease based on high-viscosity synthetic hydrocarbon oil and a special lithium soap. The grease is designed to work in central lubrication systems operating in low temperatures. This grease can also be used in place of gear oils in leaking gearboxes. Due to its thixotropic behavior, it is able to slow leaking while continuing to protect the gears and bearings, according to the company, which also claims that Klübersynth BEM 44-4600 offers a long service life, functional reliability and significant cost reduction. State-of-the-art additives ensure optimum resistance to oxidation, wear and corrosion. The grease is also very resistant to high temperatures.
Compression Load Cells for Harsh Environments
Flintec’s RC3 compression load cell has been redeveloped, providing customers with a modern alternative. The RC3 and RC3D are compact, robust, compression load cells manufactured from high-grade stainless steel and hermetically sealed for reliable performance in the harshest environments. With capacities ranging from 7.5 tons to 300 tons, the RC3 is traditionally used in high-capacity scales for the static weighing of trucks or railroad vehicles, as well as silo weighing systems. The RC3D supplements the RC3, by providing a more cost-effective solution to customer applications within the 30-ton to 50-ton capacity range. New electronics allow the RC3D to be fitted as part of a single link (daisy chain) system, eliminating the need for expensive junction boxes. This new generation load cell is quick and easy to set up and benefits from extensive diagnostic capabilities to identify faults, according to the manufacturer. With improved corner adjustment and system calibration, the RC3D allows for a single-load cell to be replaced without compromising the entire weighing system. Other features include an IP69K hermetic seal rating and integrated surge protection in accordance with EN61000-4-5. Complementing the new RC3D, and the already established RC3, is a wide range of mounting hardware and electronics, allowing customers to create a complete weighing system for any application.
