MTE Corp., which designs and manufactures high-efficiency electrical power quality solutions, announced the introduction of its new dV Sentry motor protection filter. The company said using a dV/dt filter helps protect AC motors from the destructive effects of long lead voltages that can damage variable frequency drives (VFDs), cables and motors. The 380- to to 600-volt dV Sentry is claimed to be the first dV/dt filter on the market to offer comprehensive three-in-one protection for VFDs and motors against peak voltage, high rise times and now, common mode voltage reduction. The dV Sentry, said MTE, has been proven to reduce common mode voltage by more than 50%. This achievement significantly reduces damage to motor bearings, motor insulation and unexpected ground fault trips and erratic behavior of VFDs and PLCs. Designed for operations in harsh environments, the dV Sentry operates from -40°C to 60°C. It features a compact design as well as lighter weight, facilitating easier installation, and offers lower wattage loss compared with other dV/dt filters on the market; low loss (heat) helps ensure longer life and protection for equipment near the filter.
