(SDLG) has launched variable horsepower versions of two of its biggest selling motor graders for Middle Eastern and African markets. The new G9190 and G9220 VHP (automatic variable horsepower) motor graders provide an automatic mode for transmission, allowing operators to shift seamlessly between manual to automatic transmission.

Pre-engineered Customizable Motors

ABB launched its N-series customizable general-purpose motors in the 50-kilowatt (kW) to 8,000-kW power range. N-series motors currently include three product families: the high-voltage rib cooled and modular induction motors, and a new range of slip-ring motors. Pre-engineered option packages include, for example, vertically mounted motors fitted with thrust bearings, which are widely used in pumping applications.

Tough Military Trucks Now Serve the Mining Industry

Acela, a producer of extreme-duty 4 x 4 and 6 x 6 trucks, recently debuted its Monterra truck line. The company said it offers a proprietary process of resetting U.S. military Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTVs) to a near zero-mile condition, then selling them into commercial markets such as mining and other resource industries for use as operational support vehicles. Acela said versions of the Monterra have proven themselves in mines for more than seven years with a 96% documented uptime.

Quiet Rock Splitter

Brokk introduced the C20 Rock Splitter. Manufactured by Darda, it is a safe and quiet alternative to explosives and hydraulic breakers, the company reported. The C20 Rock Splitter quickly breaks large boulders and solid rock in mining and shaft sinking applications as well as cross passage work in tunneling. Users drill a 3-in.-diameter hole into the rock with a separate attachment before inserting the splitter. The attachment expands with as much as 1,800 tons of force, splitting the rock.

Vehicle Intervention System Takes Control When Necessary

Hexagon AB launched HxGN Mine VIS, a vehicle intervention system that detects and prevents collisions by automatically slowing down or stopping a haul truck if an imminent collision is detected. According to the company, Mine VIS is an additional layer of safety on top of the Collision Avoidance System (CAS), helping to avoid incidents, injuries and fatalities. Mine VIS manages traffic in the pit and, by reacting when and if operators do not, is intended to ensure that safety rules are followed.

Impact Cradle Absorbs Shock

Superior Industries released the Impact Cradle, which is designed to eliminate the space between the conveyor belt and bed, the company reported. Designed to fit into an existing idler mounting footprint, the Impact Cradle is built to receive the blunt force of material flow at transition points in conveying systems, lessening the wear on the conveyor belt. The Impact Cradle’s thick urethane segments absorb shock and dissipate contact energy, reducing conveyor belt wear and tear.

Mining Tier 4 Final Engines to Be Certified

Cummins unveiled ultra-clean mining engines designed to meet European Union (EU) Stage V emissions regulations. The engines will be certified to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)/Air Resources Board (ARB) Tier 4 Final standards. The integration of Cummins’ latest aftertreatment system, the Single Module, with leading combustion and air-handling technology, allows the 2019 F3.8, B4.5, B6.7 and L9 engines to be exhaust gas recirculation-free. The Single Module system combines a diesel particulate filter, selective catalytic reduction and urea-dosing technologies in one unit, providing up to a 50% reduction in envelope size and a 30% reduction in weight compared with earlier products.

According to the company, Molylube Open Gear and Rope Lubricant has been specifically formulated for open gears, girth gears, and rack and pinions. Continuously Monitor OTR Tire Pressure

The Doran 360OTR tire pressure monitoring system continuously monitors air pressure in OTR tires with valve stem-mounted tire pressure sensors. These large bore tire pressure sensors transmit RF signals to a digital monitor/display located in the cab. Wheel positions are programmed into the display with a customizable baseline pressure setting for each tire. The LCD in-cab display features a “Green Means Good” LED indicator light and an interactive screen to display tire status and real-time pressures in the tires. The in-cab monitor/display can operate as a stand-alone system for the equipment operator or it can be integrated with telematics devices to provide off-vehicle communication of tire pressure and temperature data. For telematics integrations and additional off-equipment communication capabilities, a black box monitor is available with pre-wired data harnesses for RS232 or J1939 data outputs. Maintain Mine Network Performance KNS Communications has designed a service solution, called WirelessOptix, for cluttered mine networks, interference, poor capacity and poor channel planning. With WirelessOptix, KNS can monitor core network KPIs such as latency, throughput and coverage. KNS can analyze the network, make recommendations for changes, then review the results — all without a trip to the site.

New Axle Offers Top GAWR

Meritor Inc. announced its new P600 Series Tridem Heavy-Haul Planetary Axle for heavy-duty mining applications. Built to operate in extreme conditions, the P600 Tridem is compatible with industry-leading suspension options and offers a best-in-class gross axle weight rating (GAWR) of 126,000 lb and gross combination weight of 560,000 lb, the company reported. Meritor’s new proportioning inter-axle differential delivers even torque split between the three axles for improved traction, maximum load capacity and increased longevity of the drivetrain. The P600 Tridem’s wide ratio coverage and standard anti-lock brakes deliver optimum safety and performance in the most extreme conditions, the company reported. The release is part of the company’s M2019 growth initiative. Full production began in June.

Software for Big Data, IoT

Skkynet Cloud Systems subsidiary Cogent Real-Time Systems released Cogent DataHub, Version 8, which supports OPC UA and streaming video. The cloud-based software package can connect and integrate data for virtually any industrial system, ranging from legacy equipment to state-of-the-art Industry 4.0 and Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) systems, Skkynet reported.

The Key enhancements of Version 8 include support for OPC UA, support for networking of OPC data through proxy servers, and secure access to USB camera images. Capable of handling more than 50,000 data changes per second, the DataHub is also seamlessly integrated with Skkynet’s SkkyHub and ETK for secure, end-to-end Industrial IoT and Industry 4.0 connectivity.

Bearing Isolator Stops Ingress

Inpro/Seal released the VB45-S Bearing Isolator, which protects against contamination ingress and lubrication loss. It utilizes Inpro/Seal’s patented XX Interface coupled with an enlarged contamination chamber to achieve an IP66 rating, the standard for premium ingress protection against both harmful dust particulates and powerful water jets from all directions, the company reported. The VB45-S utilizes an enlarged D-Groove to capture oil and return it back to the bearing housing or a grease band to block grease from traveling down the shaft.

The VB45-S employs a compact design, at 0.625 in. (15.88 millimeters) overall (axial) length, the company reported. That length allows for easy installation, often without the need for equipment modifications

Tsubaki Power Transmission launched Neptune corrosion-resistant roller chains. The chains deliver exceptional corrosion resistance in applications exposed to water, saltwater, chemicals and high-humidity conditions, the company reported.

The chains are offered in a variety of options including single and multi-strand drive, single and double pitch, attachment, British Standard and customized chain.

Liebherr released the 90-metric ton (mt) LTM 1090-4.2. It is the most powerful 4-axle crane on the market, the company reported. The crane can travel with an axle load of 10 mt, 12 mt and 16 mt. It features a 60-meter (m) telescopic boom, and carries 8.8 mt of ballast with a 12-mt axle load.

Motors for Extremes

Nidec Motor Corp. unveiled TITAN Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled (TEFC) motors for pumps, compressors, fans, blowers and conveyors. U.S. Motors brand TEFC motors are designed to operate in 40°C and at a maximum altitude of 3,300 ft above sea level. They are rated Class B rise at 1.0 service factor and Class F rise at 1.15 service factor with full Class F or better insulating materials. Nidec conducts a short commercial test on each TITAN TEFC motor consisting of no-load current tests, and a check on locked rotor current, winding resistance, high potential and vibrations. TEFC motors are offered in 150 hp through 600 hp. Inventory is available and ready to ship on 150 hp through 400 hp motors.

Red Meters unveiled the RM Series, non-nuclear density meters. Coated with an abrasion-resistant liner to withstand rough and finely ground slurries, the RM3 is easily installed into the slurry pipeline. It reportedly reduces the labor typically required to maintain optimum blade pressure and extends the service life of both the belt and the cleaner. Equipped with sensors to confirm that the belt is loaded and running, the system automatically backs the blade away during stoppages or when the conveyor is running empty. This minimizes unnecessary wear to both the belt and cleaner.

Ceramic Lagging Sheds Dirt

ASGCO added Semi-Ceramic Pulley Lagging, featuring 40% coverage, to their pulley lagging product line. Ceramic tiles are embedded in rubber on all sides and separated by a horizontal groove for shedding water and dirt. The pre-chemical backing provides an exceptional bond for rubber-to-metal applications. The lagging provides the solution when conventional rubber lagging fails to correct belt slippage and wears prematurely, the company reported. It is supplied in 15-in.-wide by 32.81-ft rolls.


High-Speed Camera

Fastec Imaging unveiled the TS5 handheld high-speed camera for recording mining and blasting operations. Using slow motion replay, a user can analyze and troubleshoot events otherwise missed by normal-speed video. High-speed imaging is used to determine the effects of blasts or the actual firing times of blast holes and the nature of the rock movement.

Silver Mine Gets Electric LHDs

Hecla’s Lucky Friday mine deployed two Artisan Vehicle Systems 153 haulers, which are powered by lithium batteries. The mine is seeking to resolve ventilation and cooling issues, Hecla reported.
The 153 was covered in the December E&MJ. Artisan reportedly designed the 153 around the electric powertrain, battery, and advanced operator control system. The 153 is smaller than a comparable diesel loader, but has 300% of the power, Artisan reported. With 3 metric tons (mt) of tramming capacity, the LHD’s total power is 214 kilowatts and tractive effort is 75 kilonewtons. The powertrain motor’s peak power is 127 kilowatts (kW) or 170 horsepower. Its peak torque is 695 newton meters, or 513 foot pounds. It is powered by a 600 volt DC, 88 kW-hour lithium iron phosphate battery. The bucket is 1.2 cubic meters (m), or 1.5 cubic yards. Lift breakout force is 4,899 kilograms (kg) (10,888 pound force [lbf]); tilt breakout force is 7,031 kg (15,500 lbf). Total operating weight is 9.5 mt.

Martin Engineering’s QB1 Cleaner HD conveyor belt cleaner features a square mainframe positioned to shed dust and spillage. The urethane blade formulation can accommodate belt speeds of up to 900 feet per minute (4.6 m per second) and service temperatures of -40° to 160°F. It also features Constant Angle Radial Pressure (CARP) technology to maintain the most efficient cleaning angle throughout service life, with a no-tool replacement process that can be performed safely by one person in less than five minutes. Duralar Technologies announced Centurian, its newest generation of advanced ultra-hard deposition systems. The company’s advanced Duralar coatings, composed of multiple layers, incorporate unique metal- and diamond-based nanotechnologies to produce tailor-designed hardness, toughness and wear-resistance as well as protection against corrosion and erosion. The Centurion, featuring a hybrid design, is engineered for cost-efficient deposition of hard and decorative coatings on parts as large as 1 m2 in volume. Sealed Ultra-Large Bearing

Schaeffler unveiled a sealed 241/1250 spherical roller bearing, reportedly a world’s first. Featuring an outside diameter of nearly 2 m, the ultra-large bearing was specifically designed for the highest-capacity high pressure grinding roll crushers. It is engineered to prevent the crushing materials from contaminating its internal components. The bearing’s rolling elements reportedly weigh 60 kg each. The outside diameter of the molded seal is 1.4 m. Metal shields with an optimized polymer seal house the bearings.

Nuclear Gauge for Single Platform

The Thermo Scientific InterfacePRO, a nuclear gauge for density, level and interface measurement of highly viscous process materials, allows users to standardize all process instruments on a single platform, and to reduce the size of radioactive materials used on site. The gauge is optimal for traditional gamma transmission applications (level and density measurements) or in gamma backscattering applications on large process vessels and pipelines. It uses non-intrusive and durable gamma backscatter technology that is designed to minimize maintenance and lengthen instrument life. Rod System Cuts Deviation

Rockmore launched its new Vector Rod System, featuring the new XT thread design. The design incorporates revolutionary new guided cylindrical contact zones between the male and female thread joints, the company reported. The zones increase the lateral support between thread joints and stabilize the connections to provide greater energy transfer. The thread guide feature improves thread alignment, which minimizes the impact duration when rattling rods to uncouple connections. The system also enables straighter holes with less deviation, the company reported. The XT thread profile is based on the traditional trapezoidal T thread design and is therefore compatible with industry standard thread types, such as T38, T45, and T51.
